EcoLodge General Manager

THE ROLE

We are seeking a General Manager for our new Osa Verde Lodge in the Osa beginning in late 2017. This is a very exciting position to help set up business operations and training to prepare for our Grand Opening in early 2018. The Osa Verde Lodge is a social enterprise to generate income for our conservation work. 100% of the profits will be invested in the non-profit operations of Osa Conservation, which is dedicated to protecting the globally significant biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula.

 

The position will require living on-site in staff housing in the Osa Peninsula. The General Manager (GM) will be responsible for the sustainable tourism business operations of Osa Conservation, which includes the new Lodge and the existing research stations. Leading a small team, the GM will ensure service in keeping with our commitment to providing a sustainable, safe, and educational experience for our guests. As an ambassador for Osa Verde and Osa Conservation, the GM will provide leadership for ensuring success through the following objectives listed below:

  4. Environmentally-friendly and cost-effective food & beverage services

 

Detailed GM Duties and Responsibilities:

OPERATIONS, STAFFING & FACILITIES

  • Develop operating procedures, service standards & ensure their full compliance

  • Supervise staff and collaborate with all department heads and DC office

  • Manage ongoing safety and risk

  • Oversee procurement of operating supplies and related contracts

  • Supervise facilities maintenance, including “green areas” and sustainability features

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

  • Responsible for the hotel’s annual Operating Budget, Marketing & Sales Plan and Capital Budget

  • A strong understanding of P&L statements and the ability to react with impactful strategies

  • Prepare monthly / quarterly financial reports and develop plans and budgets

SALES & MARKETING

Assist in promotion and marketing efforts, to include

  • Help create promotional materials

  • Design innovative experiences and tours

  • Business development, identify and build client base

CLIENT SERVICE

  • Deliver excellent visitor experience from pre-arrival to post departure follow up

  • Supervise hospitality team and work in collaboration with Osa Conservation team

FOOD & BEVERAGE

  • Manage an efficient and safe kitchen that serves a cost effective, nutritiously balanced international menu that utilizes products from our sustainable farm.

Applicant Qualifications

  • Degree related to Hospitality Management/Sustainable Tourism or related field, Master’s preferred

  • Must have at least 2 years of general management experience in the hospitality field, preferably in a tropical and/or remote environment

  • Have a passion for conservation, sustainable tourism; interest in tropical birds a plus

  • Fully bilingual in Spanish, English and other languages a plus

  • Must have a driver’s license and be able to drive a manual vehicle in remote tropical setting

  • Excellent organizational, communication & public speaking skills

  • Proficient in MS Office, Google docs

  • Experience with reservation and CRM software a plus

  • Wilderness First Aid training a plus
