Las Becas para la formación y la capacitación de los jóvenes conservacionistas
Her research is one of the first studies on bats in caves in the southern region of Costa Rica and describes new bat shelters in the Osa, which were previously unknown. This project is a pilot for the region and will serve as basis for deeper research on bats and cave ecosystems in general!

His focus is on the critically endangered Golfito robber frog, examining why this species persists in remnant populations after going extinct in much of their historical home range. Such information is valuable to develop adequate conservation policies that can be implemented to protect these populations and encourage their expansion back into their historical habitat range throughout Costa Rica.

El Fondo de Becas Álvaro Ugalde apoyará la formación y capacitación de los jóvenes conservacionistas con méritos demostrados, capacidad de liderazgo y un claro interés en la conservación de la Península de Osa.
Álvaro Ugalde Viquez era un conservacionista tenaz y visionario. Fundó el Sistema de Parques Nacionales de Costa Rica y estableció el famoso Parque Nacional Corcovado en la Península de Osa. Nunca ocultó el hecho de que Corcovado y Osa fueron sus lugares favoritos en Costa Rica. Álvaro se convirtió en asesor de Osa Conservation y hasta sus últimos días continuó siendo una de las voces para la protección de Osa.
El legado que Álvaro nos dejó, se seguirá celebrando mediante la profundización de su obra y su visión, dando poder a otros para que marquen la diferencia. Conservación Osa creo el Fondo de Becas Álvaro Ugalde con este fin- para involucrar a los jóvenes en la conservación de la Osa.
Las becas permitirán a los jóvenes – de la escuela secundaria, la universidad, los estudiantes de postgrado e investigadores que inician su carrera- aprender junto a biólogos conservacionistas, guarda parques, educadores ambientales, profesores, activistas de la comunidad y otros activistas.
Los candidatos deben completar el Formulario de Solicitud de la Beca Álvaro Ugalde.
La fecha limite de la aplicación para 2019 se va anunciar más tarde en el año.

The Álvaro Ugalde Scholarship Fund will support the training of young conservationists with proven merit, leadership skills and a clear interest in the conservation of the Osa Peninsula.
Álvaro Ugalde Viquez was a tenacious conservationist and visionary. He founded Costa Rica’s National Park System and establishing the famous Corcovado National Park in the Osa Peninsula. He never hid the fact that Corcovado and the Osa were his favorite places in Costa Rica. Álvaro became an adviser to Osa Conservation and until his last days continued to be one of the voices for the protection of the Osa.
The legacy left to us by Álvaro will continue to be celebrated through the deepening of his work and vision, empowering others to make a difference. Osa Conservation created the Álvaro Ugalde Scholarship Fund for this purpose- a means to involve young people in the conservation of the Osa.
The scholarships will allow young people – from high school, university, postgraduate students and early-career researchers – to learn together with conservation biologists, park rangers, environmental educators, teachers, community activists and other activists.
Candidates must complete the Álvaro Ugalde Scholarship Application Form.
Application deadlines for 2019 will be announced later in the year.
